Mission on the Bay - Bay St. Louis Camp
Last updated: 6/25/2010
What is Mission on the Bay?
The "new" Mission on the Bay is a volunteer recovery camp which is the "finale" of nearly five (5) years of faithful volunteers and staff from both Camp Coast Care and the original Mission on the Bay!  After CCC and MOB closed their previous camps, we relocated on the site of what was previously the Lagniappe Presbyterian Volunteer Camp in Bay St. Louis.  We are honored to be able to serve as the last remaining volunteer camp of any size in Hancock County, serving Hancock, Harrison, Pearl River and Stone Counties.

Who volunteers thru Mission on the Bay?
Adults and youth (14 yrs & up) from all walks of life - NO SKILL REQUIRED - are invited to join in the on-going recovery and rebuilding efforts.  While we are a faith-based organization, we do not discriminate based on faith, sex, race or physical/mental ability.  Thus far in 2010, we have hosted nearly 1800 volunteers from across the US and Canada, which takes LESM's total number of post-Katrina volunteers over 59,000 since 2005!

How are volunteers skills and presence utilized?
Volunteers of all skill levels work in teams with Construction Supervisors to help with rehabbing/rebuilding homes, as well as gutting homes and cleaning properties yet to be cleaned since the storm.  Soon, very soon, we will be embarking on a major building project in partnership with the Hancock Housing Resource Center to rehab and rebuild up to twenty(20) fully-funded homes over the course of the next 18 months to 2 years.  In addition, we do ask volunteers to help out around the camp with cleaning up after meals, attending to the bathrooms and bunkhouses, and, at times, assisting with preparing meals. In fact, our chef Jon Marc and facilities manager John Sabin would be pleased if you would consider soliciting some "kitchen/camp elves" to help in the kitchen and around the camp while others focus on off-site projects. Regardless of your skill-level or the ways in which you serve, we hope you all realize how much your presence is appreciated and we ask you to remember that projects which may seem small or insignificant to you could be the most important and timely offering for the person/family whom you serve. From that perspective, Volunteer opportunities abound!
